More Shopping from the Artist Summit

This will be mainly about eyebrows. Even if you don't wear make up or want to be natural and just wear a touch of make up, you need to have your brows groomed!!!  Girls, bushy brows or unkept brows are not a good look on anyone.  If you can't do it yourself find a good salon/spa go to a counter at a big department store but have them done.  Now back to my shopping, as I was getting ready for the summit, I needed to have my brows done, as everyone who knows me knows how I am about my brows LOL!!!
I make my appointment to get them dyed (yep they are so light you can hardly see them) and shaped.
So I am lying on the chair and I hear OH NO!!!! not a good thing to hear when some one is waxing your brows.  Do I panic, somewhat so I ask do I have a brow left???? I keep hearing I am sorry, still don't know exactly what happened. Well a few hairs got waxed by mistake, my brows are somewhat sparse, so even losing 1 hair makes a gap. So here I am trying to look my best and have a nice gap in my brows.
As I get ready for the Summit, I fix my brows as best as possible.

At the Summit Senna Cosmetics is there. They were my very first leap into the brow shaping arena.I had my brows first done at a Senna counter at Marhsall Fields and have been hooked ever since. I got to met Eugenia Weston owner of Senna Cosmetics such a gracious women. Now you would think I would make my own brow colors, but no.  Since my hair color changes so much, that's another story, I have a lot of different eye brow colors I use.  While at the summit I was checking out the brow kit from Senna. This kit is a good beginning for some one getting into brows. The kit comes complete with everything you will need. The one at the show had everything, brow color, tweezers, scissors, gel, brow stencils. Girls brow stencils can become your best friend if you use them properly.  The kit I got was the Neutral one, this way if I am doing make up on a client I have the basic colors I need without trying to mix and match one.  So if you haven't got your brows done and have been thinking about it, ask your friends where they go get some recommendations and have it done you will not regret it.

Shopping at the Summit

Let me start by saying this was every make up junkies dream!!!  The companies that participated were the best of the best.
Alcone, Alison Raffaele, Armour Beauty, Big Girl Cosmetics, Cara Cosmetics, Cover FX, Crown Brush,  Crystal Wright Live, Embryolisse, Eve Pearl Beauty, Make up Forever, Naimie's, Naked Cosmetics, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Pencil Me In, Senna, Stila, Temptu, Yaby just to name a few. No I didn't stop at all of them.  But I will next time

One of my stops was at Embryolisse, the make up artist all seem to like and carry this in their bag.  http://www.embryolisseusa.com/.   So I figured has to be good.
Lait-Crème Concentrè (24-Hour Miracle Cream) is a rich moisturizing lotion. This specially formulated lotion is quite versatile, throw it in your travel bag when you don't have enough space for numerous products. Our creamy lotion is really three products in one: it cleans, moisturizes, and reduces irritation after shaving. Massage into face and neck and rinse off with warm water to remove dirt and makeup. Apply to damp clean skin to seal in moisture before applying makeup. Smooth over legs after shaving to sooth irritated skin.

I have been using it for 2 weeks now, and it has a nice light creamy texture and sinks into the skin, doesn't not feel greasy at all. It does not have an SPF in it, so I have been mixing a bit of my SPF 25 cream with it.  The make up artist use it for that reason, they do not like anything to flash back in the photo. I do have mature skin and it does a good job of moisturing. This moisturizer works well under minerals, does not change the color of the minerals like some moisturizers do.

The next item from this line I purchased was eye cream, and if you all know me you know I buy everyone on the market. Well I am quite pleased with one, it is moisturizing enough for my wrinkled old eyes, again sinks into the skin, not greasy. Some eye creams tend to make my dark circles darker, yes ladies your eye creams can do that. This one does not and the under eye area stays nice and smooth all day.
Soin Contour Des Yeux (Eye Contour Treatment) is a non-greasy eye treatment that has been specially formulated for the fragile area around the eyes. Rich in active ingredients this multi-purpose product acts to improve skin tone, firm skin, and reduce the appearance of small wrinkles and crow's feet.

The last item I got was a night cream Crème Onctueuse Raffermissante (Rich Firming Cream) is specially formulated with Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Elastin & the Complex Vitamins A, E & F. The combination improves skin tone and elasticity while wrinkles and lines become visibly softer.
I used this as my night moisturizer. I cleanse my face with my Clairsonic, usually tone and then I apply a small amount of this cream. You do not need much it is very rich and silky and again it soaks into the skin leaving it feel smooth, soft and silky. My face in the am looks pretty darn good and it nicley moisturized and soft.
I have to say I am impressed with this line and will be ordering it again.

Come back and see what else I bought!!!!

The Artist Summit Part 2

The next day I had a Color Theory Class with Kevin James Bennett, for all of you who do not know who he is here is a little bit about him. He is also sooo charming!!
Multiple Emmy Award winner, Kevin-James Bennett, has spent over 20 years honing the skills that have brought him accolades from his peers as well as viewers of his work in television, film and print projects. After a long and successful career in the industry, he is excited to join MAKE UP FOR EVER as U.S. Director of Artistry and Development. Kevin's love affair with make up was ignited by ground-breaking make up artist Way Bandy's beauty book "Designing Your Face," which initially inspired him to journey into the world of make up. His passion was further intensified by the dawn of the Supermodel in the 80's, as he was fascinated by the intense media focus on these catwalk superstars and the celebrity status of the artists who created their looks. He worked closely with society and celebrity clientele, and made his first foray into TV by assisting the salon's stylists during television make over segments filmed there. Noting his speed and technical expertise under pressure, the television studios began to book him directly to work on a variety of shows. In the early 90's, Kevin's career began to take off and he left the arena of retail make up. Fashion runway, print and television bookings filled his schedule.

This class taught us how to make any color foundation using a few things that MUA keep in their bag.  I was total amazed at  how this was done. The man is a genius with foundation and a few colorants. I was very confused about color theory but this class spelled things out in a way that I could even understand.
Since the class was using liquid foundation, I am going to try and take the information I learned to apply it to using minral make up when I do a client. I have to make come color additives or toners so I can tweak the foundation for some one sitting in my chair. This way I can have a color for anyne who needs their make up done. So will be practing on some suspecting customers.  The class was over so fast but again we did learn some tricks and tips from one of the Masters of the Make Up Artist World.

Next installment I will be telling you what I bought at the show, yes they had an area for shopping. My favorite part of the 3 days.

The Artist Summit in Chicago

The Artist Summit was here last week end, the first time they have come to Chicago. The Artist Summit will bring together celebrity artists from beauty, fashion, film and television, top pro-beauty brands and educators with pro makeup artists, hairstylists, business owners and students from across the globe for three days of education, community building and networking. The events are open to pros from any are of the makeup and beauty industries.

I went on Saturday for the Make up 101 Class and 8 hour extensive class on all things for the make up artist to know. The class was give by Daven Mayeda, and outstanding(and awfully cute) make up artist. We learned things that a make up artist needs to know, and some techniques for applying make up. The fun was we got to try out these techniques on a member of the group, we had partners to experiment on. He told us his secrets that he uses in his work.

While we were practing out techniques, Eugenia Weston of Senna Cosmetics came into the class and was walking around looking at our work. Of course I immediatley recognized her and started talking to her. I was so awe struck LOL!!!
This was day one of the summit, will do another post about the class on day 2 with Kevin James Bennett.

Make up Application Tips

We are going to be posting some make up applications tips, so if there is something you want to know about let us know. I was talking to a good friend of mine and she said she just learned how to do tightlining.

So I thought our first tip should be about tightlining. I love the way tightling makes the eye look, your lashes look so lush when you do this technique. So here we go.

The big differences between regular eyeliner application and tightlining is that you line your lashes from beneath instead of above, you put the color underneath and in between your eyelashes instead of on top. Tightling
gives the allusion of thicker lashes and a more defined eye.

You can use a gel liner, there are some made just for beneath the lashes like Smashbox,or you can use Mac Fluidliners, you can also use a pencil Tarte makes some just for lining the inner rim of your lashes. I like using a gel, it is easier for me to work with, just find one that you are comfortable with. Now the brush is another item that is important in this application, you can use a flat brush or and angle brush. Nothing to hard, make sure the brush is stiff enough to hold the gel liner but not too hard to scratch your eye. Please be careful!!! Same thing goes for a pencil if you want to use a regular eye pencil like a kohl pencil, make sure it is not too hard and scratch or hurt your eye.

You need a good mirror, magnifying perferable, especially if you are old like me and can't see. Now once you get comfortable, get your prefered product, if you are using a gel, take your brush, dab it into the liner pot, not getting too much on the brush, you can always add more.
Holding the brush vertically upwards stabilize your hand against your cheek or your elbow against a surface.
Take a finger on your opposite hand, gently lift the center of your eyelid to expose the underside of your lashes.
Looking into the mirror, gently push eyeliner into the base of your eyelashes from below. Now this may take a bit of getting use to push and wiggle the brush into your lashline rather than swiping from side to side.
If you are sometimes lazy like I am in the AM and always running late. I just line the underneath part of my lid. I use short strokes as not to take off the liner as I am swiping. Also works well with a pencil and it pretty quick. You get the somewhat the same effect.

This techniques does take sometime to get used to doing, but well worth it. Then apply your liner above the lashes add mascara and you eye will be so defined and beautiful.

So if you like this tip and would like to see more, please leave us a comment.

Review for our Women of Color

Dawn of Brooklyn,NY is a lady of color and she tried out our Lusion line of powders. Here is what she had to say about them

I got the samples and I have been trying them out and here is my feedback. The Clear Lusion on my skin gives a matte effect personally it would be a great powder for my combination skin when its summer time and you wear less makeup and you need just a small amount as it might look ashy if you apply too much I used a stippling brush to apply The Sheer Dark is just that sheer and gives the skin a nice veil look. The Lusion Powder Dark could be worn as a light powder instead of foundation as it gives heavier coverage of the three I like all three and women of color can defnately wear these. I have Venus Williams complexion and they worked on my skintone so they should work for deeper skintones. I hope you will consider in future to include deeper shades of mineral foundation for us women of color(smile) this is a very nice form of powder. I will definately be back toget some full sizes when i run out of the samples. Thanks and take care DW, Brooklyn, NY

Aura-Lusion

We have a new line of products coming out called Aura-Lusion. It is made with the newest ingredient for blurring fine lines and wrinkles on the market today. We think it is better than the big name ones, but of course we are partial. We have sent out test samples and most of the reviews were very favorable, you will be able to read the comments on the website once we launch this item.

"This new ingredient manipulates incident light by converting invisible UV light to blue light (photoluminescence) and selectively scattering favorable blue and green light. The particles settle in the wrinkle and subtly illuminate a blue glow which decreases the appearance of wrinkles. This leads to youthful looking skin as the appearance of shadows, wrinkles, pigmentation and discolorations are diminished"

Don't be alarmed you face doesn't look blue LOL!!! it is very very subtle look, even hard to tell, but you look better but can't pin point why. You face looks very smooth and even, not cakey, if you have trouble with your foundation looking cakey you can add this to it and it should smooth out the look.

We will sell this clear like MUFE and MAC and will include this ingredient in a line of foundation, finishing powders and possible concealers.

Fusion of Color Combo #2

This is our second Fusion of Color Combo, this one is another everyday wearable color combo. We took Rose Silk all over eye, Used Wine in the crease, or if you do not want to do a crease color, you can take Wine and use it as a liner color, or even smoke it out on the lid. We used it as a liner color, we took out Liner Magic, drew the line first on our eye, took another brush and lined with the Wine. We also took the Moonlight, and used it as a highlighter under the brow bone. Moonlight is another staple item for the pressed minerals. To finish off our look we use L'Amore Blush with a bit of Moonlight on the top of our cheeks.

Spring is here time to clean your brushes

When was the last time you cleaned your brushes????? With the arrival of spring and all the new colors in make up that are being introduced, you have to make sure your brushes are clean!!!
So here is some information on cleaning your brushes, one of my best friends Tiffany (a wonderful talented make up artist) put this together. So if you haven't cleaned your brushes recently, look at this and it will help you get them clean and last a long time.
BRUSH CLEANING 101
So...when was the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? Did you know that you should wash them and do it on a regular basis? If you don't you might have a science experiment on bacterial growth in your hands and on your face and not even know it! If you can't remember the last time you've washed your brushes, you're experiencing unusual new breakouts or your brushes just look really beat up and neglected it's time to give them some TLC and a good cleaning.
There are several ways to clean your brushes using various products. Whatever you use don't immerse your brushes underwater from the metal (ferrule) part up. Only the brush hair should get wet, nothing else. Another important thing is to choose whatever product you would feel comfortable using on your face to clean your brushes. If you have very sensitive or anemic skin you probably wouldn't cleanse your face with your hair shampoo, Woolite, dish soap, hand soap, etc. so you may not want to use it on your brushes either.
You can use shampoo and conditioner especially on natural hair brushes. This is a great way to thoroughly clean and conditions your brushes but make sure to choose products that will not leave behind any residue. Just fill up a bowl or your sink with lukewarm water (keep it shallow) and shampoo. Take each brush one at a time and only immerse the brush hairs into the soapy water. Swish until all the makeup comes out. Once they are all clean rinse them with clean water, gently squeeze out the excess water and lay flat to dry on top of a towel. It's very important to never dry a wet brush standing up because water/moisture will trickle down and loosen up the glue that holds the brush hairs to the handle. Over time your brush will shed more and the ferrule/metal will loosen away from the handle shortening the lifespan of your expensive brush! This method will require time for your brushes to dry completely so do it at night so they will be dry by morning.
You can also use a makeup brush cleaner that works and dries instantly. Cinema Secrets is by far a very good one because you literally use teensy droplets of the cleaner and it instantly disinfects, removes all traces of makeup/residue and also conditions your brushes. It's a professional strength product that is extremely concentrated so it truly lasts a very, very, long time especially for personal use. FYI, there is a very subtle vanilla scent to the cleaner that dissipates quickly after you clean your brushes. It doesn't linger for long unless you use too much product. Remember it's highly concentrated so don't waste it by using too much!
How do you use Cinema Secrets brush cleaner? You can actually use it in two different ways. One way to use it most is to dispense a small amount into a little bowl like a glass or stainless steel pinch bowl, those little glass bowls nail techs use for their acrylic nail stuff or any small shallow bowl with sides to it. You're going to need this for your small brushes. For your larger brushes a suggestion is using a small spray bottle but be careful as not all spray bottles especially most plastics will work with this cleaner. It has to be a brush cleaner spray bottle (Japonesque/Parian Spirit works great) because this stuff breaks down some plastics after you keep cleaner in their for a few weeks. Better yet, get one of these ingenious brush cleaner dispensers! It's what the pros use! http://camerareadycosmetics.com/proddetail.php?prod=Graftob-GMendaPumpC6
So with your little bowl and your small brushes (brow, eyes, liner, etc) you're going to barely dip the very tips of the brush into the cleaner. DO NOT DUNK!! All you need to do is touch the very tip to the cleaner and then go back and forth on a lint-free paper towel or micro fiber cloth until all the color comes out. That's it! Again the key is to not soak the brush hairs into the cleaner.
For the larger brushes (cheek and face) spray the brush on both sides of the brush and go back and forth on paper towel or micro fiber cloth. If you're cleaning off cream products or water resistant/proof gel liners you may have to use a little more product.
If your brushes are really dirty or you prefer to shampoo them you can create a brush cleaner bath which is the second way you can use Cinema Secrets. Mix 1 part cleaner with three parts water and soak/swirl the brush in the solution for no more than 30 seconds. Rinse clean with lukewarm water and lay flat to dry. Foundation, concealer and lip, basically synthetic hair brushes tend to hold onto a lot of the residue inside the brush so make sure to look to see that all the product is cleaned out towards the center of the brush.
You can order Cinema Secrets brush cleaner online at www.cinemasecrets.com or at www.camerareadycosmetics.com High quality makeup brushes are an investment so take good care of them and they will last you for years and years.

The pressed mineral blush is a cool, clean peachy pink color. The lipsticks have 2 looks one is a neutral pink, the other a darker sheer berry color, you can use them one at a time or mix together for a new color and top off your lips with the most pretty shimmery pink gloss.

February Special

We have 2 specials for February, because I couldn't decide which one I liked more.

We have PASSION eye shadow a medium purple plum color, good for a lid color, crease color or liner color, and if you pair it up with our other special SWEETHEART all over face color, it is absolutely beautiful. Use SWEETHEART as an eye shadow all over the eye, then use Passion either on the outer edge of the lid or in the crease or both then liner dry or wet with PASSION, the combination is so pretty.

We at Fusion of Color also use SWEETHEART as a blush color, it is a very light shimmery pink, or as a highlighter on top of the cheeks carried around the outer eye area.

So we hope you like the 2 choices we made as much as we do.
